After Glenn and
I parted ways, I called up the Executive we were working
with and conveyed to him that I, in no way wished to
give up my music career and asked if he knew of any other
bands looking. He told me to contact a man named Shel
Talmy.
I walked into my try out as cocky as ever...still not having
learned that a cocky attitude gets you pretty much nothing.
Shel asked what kind of music I could sing, and I told him
anything. The blind man looked at me, put me in my place and
said, "Let's see what you got." I belted out a
tune and within one day found myself recording with one of
the most legendary Record Producers that ever lived. I
didn't realize it at the time, but Shel had discovered and
produced The Who, The Kinks and Bowie (to name a few). I was
now called Bart Rhodes and "The Cast In Cement"
project had been born. I was writing again, and one day
showed up at the small apartment studio to meet our engineer
Howard Wolen and another person who I would be working
with...a true music legend...Nicky Hopkins!
Nicky was an icon! He appears on "Who's Next" and even worked with John Lennon on "Imagine"! I was with the big boys! The project eventually came to a halt when our deal with Curb Records failed and after I blew my Record Deal in England without even knowing it! It turns out that I was one of the last people to work with Nicky before he passed away. Below you will find some of the very rare and final recordings of myself on vocals and keyboards and Nicky Hopkins on keyboards (as produced by the legendary Shel Talmy in 1991-92). I am still in touch with Shel and am honored to have had such an experience.
